About

Robin Ooi, the consultant behind AI SEO Malaysia

Fifteen years in search, a Mechatronics Engineering degree that never quite wore off, an Amazon bestselling book, and a client roster made up of multinationals and listed companies whose names will never appear on this website.

An engineer who ended up in search

The training was Mechatronics Engineering. Control systems, feedback loops, the habit of asking what the actual input variable is before touching anything. That habit turned out to matter more in SEO than any of the tactics people argue about online.

The search career started in affiliate marketing, where there was no brand to hide behind and no retainer to cushion a bad month. If the page did not convert, nothing happened. That teaches a specific discipline: measure the thing that pays, not the thing that is easy to screenshot.

After that came co-founding a full-service agency, then a deliberate narrowing. Today the work is Generative Engine Optimization, AI SEO and online reputation management, run under Catapultz Group Sdn Bhd from George Town, Penang, for clients across Malaysia and Singapore.

Why this site exists separately

Robin's personal site at robinooi.com.my covers the consultant. This site covers the category. AI SEO in Malaysia is new enough that most of what gets published about it is either vendor marketing or a translated American blog post, neither of which helps a Malaysian marketing head decide anything.

So the pages here are built to be genuinely useful and genuinely citable. The insights section answers one real question per article. The fundamentals sit on their own pages: what AI SEO is, how GEO actually works, where it differs from traditional SEO, and what it costs here rather than in San Francisco.

How the work is run

Small roster on purpose. Category exclusivity, which means turning down work that would conflict with an existing client. Direct contact with the person doing the thinking rather than an account manager relaying it. That model has a hard ceiling on volume, and that is the trade being made deliberately.

Client names are never published, in case studies, on slides, or in a pitch deck. Several of them are listed companies. Discretion is part of the service, not a limitation of it.

The book

Your SEO Sucks! is a plain-language SEO playbook that reached bestseller status on Amazon. It is deliberately unglamorous about the industry, which is roughly the same tone you will find on this site.
