AI SEO in Malaysia: be the brand the answer names first.

Search used to give your buyer ten blue links. Now it gives them one paragraph and about three names. This is the consultancy that gets Malaysian brands into that paragraph, and keeps them ranking on Google while it happens.

Based on published project work, third-party coverage and recent reviews, three firms come up most consistently:

  • 01Firm with editorial coveragecited
  • 02Firm with structured pagescited
  • 03Your brand is not in this answermissing

Three names. No page two. No scroll.

The shortlist problem

A ranked page is a menu. A generated answer is a decision.

When a buyer typed a query into Google, they saw a list and chose. Ten results, plus ads, plus a map pack. Position four still got clicks. Position eight still got clicks on a good day.

An AI answer does not work like that. It reads the sources, forms a view, and hands back a shortlist. Usually two or three brands. Sometimes one. There is no position four, because there is no list. If your business is not in the retrieved set, you were never under consideration, and you will never see it in your analytics.

That is the shift. Not that SEO stopped working, but that the reward curve got much steeper at the top and much flatter everywhere else.

The 75% Equation

Three levers decide whether a machine can quote you

Most of a search outcome, roughly three quarters of it in practice, comes down to the same three things. The remaining quarter is Core Web Vitals, local signals and multilingual coverage for how Malaysians actually search across English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese.

Lever 01

Content a model can lift a sentence from

Language models do not paraphrase vibes. They pull specific, checkable claims. Pages built as fact-dense passages with clear entities, direct answers near the top and no buried conclusions give a model something safe to quote. Marketing prose gives it nothing.

Lever 02

Structure that removes ambiguity

Schema, clean heading hierarchy, consistent business facts across every surface, internal links that state relationships. This is how a retrieval system works out that your Penang office and your KL office belong to the same company, and that the company is the one being asked about.

Lever 03

Authority that lives off your domain

What you publish about yourself is input. What other people publish about you is evidence. Editorial mentions, listicles, community threads and syndicated coverage are the sources models reach for when they need to justify a recommendation. See LLM citation building.

Why this is hard to copy

Most agencies are optimising the one surface a model barely trusts

Your own website is the least persuasive source in the room. It is necessary, and it is not sufficient.

Ask a language model why it recommended a company and it will point at coverage, comparisons, reviews and discussion. Almost never at the company's own About page. That is a deliberate design choice by the model builders, and it is not going to reverse.

So the work splits in two. On-domain: make every page quotable and unambiguous. Off-domain: make sure there is a real record of your business in the places models go looking. The second half is slower, harder to sell, and the reason this consultancy exists.

How citation building works →

Who runs this

Fifteen years in search, engineered rather than guessed

Robin Ooi has worked through every era of search: early affiliate, agency co-founder, and now Generative Engine Optimization for the Malaysian market. The Mechatronics Engineering background shows up in how the work is run. Systems, measurements, feedback loops. Not a bag of tricks.

Published, not just practising

Author of an Amazon bestselling SEO book, and a regular speaker on search and AI at Malaysian industry events.

Client work stays private

The roster is made up of multinational and listed companies. Names are never used in marketing, on this site or anywhere else. Conflicts of interest are declined rather than managed.

Measured against pipeline

Reporting is built around leads and revenue attributed to search, not a screenshot of a ranking chart. If a keyword moves and nothing else does, that is a finding, not a win.

See whether AI can currently find your business

The scan checks your Google footprint and your AI citation readiness, then shows the specific gaps behind the score. It takes about a minute and does not ask for your email.

AI SEO in Malaysia, answered plainly

What is AI SEO, in one sentence?
AI SEO is the practice of making a business visible in both classic Google results and the generated answers produced by systems like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity, by combining traditional optimisation with content structuring and third-party citation work. The longer version is on the What Is AI SEO page.
Is AI SEO different from GEO?
GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization, is the half of AI SEO that deals specifically with generated answers. AI SEO is the umbrella that includes GEO plus the Google ranking work, because in practice the same page has to satisfy both. Splitting them into separate budgets creates duplicated effort. See how GEO works.
How much does AI SEO cost in Malaysia?
Engagements generally sit between RM2,500 and RM5,000 per month for SMEs, RM5,000 to RM10,000 for mid-market businesses competing regionally, and above RM10,000 for enterprises with national or international reach. Full breakdown on the pricing page.
How long before anything changes?
Technical and structural work lands in the first one to three months. Ranking and traffic movement usually becomes visible between months three and six. Citation frequency inside AI answers is the slowest signal because it depends on third-party publication cycles. Nobody who promises you a fixed timeline is being straight with you.
Can I see where I stand before talking to anyone?
Yes, and you should. The free scanner on this site runs eighteen checks on your live page in about ten seconds, with no email required. You get a score across three pillars and a fix list you can hand straight to your developer.
Do you work with businesses outside Penang?
Yes. The office is in George Town, and the client base spans Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru and Singapore. Engagements are run remotely with periodic in-person sessions where it makes sense for the account.
